Zanzibar City

Unguja, also known as Zanzibar, is the main island of the Tanzanian Zanzibar archipelago. Stone Town, part of Zanzibar City, is an old trading centre with mosques and winding alleys. The House of Wonders, built in 1883, is a former sultan’s palace with a bell tower. The Old Fortress now houses a cultural centre and a stone amphitheatre. Underground aqueducts feed hot water to the Persian Hamamni baths from the late 19th century.
