MASAI MARA FIG TREE camp SAFARI MASAI MARA FIG TREE camp SAFARIWe were looking forward to a holiday at Diani Beach in Kenya in February 2022. The destination was the resort of Papillon Lagoon Beach. After past good experiences with beach boys, it occurred to me to try to find a local travel agency on the map focusing on safari trips. I found several. One week before I left for vacation, I wrote an inquiry email to six local travel agencies. My interest was a 3 day (2 night) air safari on the Masaj Maru. Gradually everyone wrote me off, but the best, most operative and most willing was Marco Polo (info@marcopolosafaris.com). He sent the perfect offer. In the morning he will pick us up at our resort and take us by car to the local airport in Ukunda, from there by small plane to the field airport at Masaj Mara, where our driver's guide will be waiting for us by jeep for the whole three days. Safari already on the way to lunch at Fig Tree camp, relax after lunch and safari at 4 pm until dark. The next day before dawn, coffee and snacks, a jeep trip on a safari, followed by a breakfast in the bush (bushbreakfast) and a return to the campsite until lunch. After relaxation, safari again until dark. After a hearty dinner and sleep on the third day again at dawn safari with breakfast in the bush and return to the camp until lunch. After lunch we were taken by jeep to the runway, and after landing in Ukunda, Marco was waiting for us and took us back to our Papillon resort. We had an amazing safari. The local Masai guide and our driver accompanied us the whole time. At the beginning, I expressed the wish that I would like to see rhinos and a leopard in addition to ordinary animals. On the very first afternoon, we discovered a resting leopard on a slope above the river. In 5 minutes he got up and walked to a sloping tree above the river, where he had hidden prey. He started eating gazelles, we heard bone breaking and meat tearing. We followed him for about 30 minutes before walking majestically into the bush. About 20 minutes after the leopard was discovered, a second jeep appeared, so we only watched the two crews. Our camp was on the banks of the Talek River, where there were several hippos in the water. We watched them from the terrace of our tent while drinking beer. They went out to graze on the opposite bank. We also saw crocodiles in the river. We heard hippos all night. The next day in the direction of the area with the possibility of finding a rhino. We saw a lot of antelopes, gazelles, zebras, giraffes, topi buffalo, camphor buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, huge herds of elephants, a group of cheetahs, two groups of lions, unsuccessful hunting of a group of lionesses on a warthog, three groups of mongoose, birds, geese, hadilov scribe, eagle predators and other unknowns. We watched the preparation of the three cheetahs for an attack on the topi for about an hour, unfortunately the hyena thwarted everything. The day was a fantastic, incredible experience. After a perfect dinner, we watched the feeding of the genetta - a small cat. We fell asleep with a hippopotamus grunting. The third day in the morning of an early safari. Our guides did not give up and headed for the Mara River. From the high bank we watched the stormy (after the night rain) river full of hippos and crocodiles. We had breakfast on the shore. About 30 meters from the jeep, I photographed buffalo on the other side of the river (Tanzania is already this) when a hippo returning from the bushes emerged from the bushes. I had so much. The guide reacted sharply and we ran for our lives. The hippopotamus climbed the beaten path up the slope and disappeared into the river. Uff. Adrenaline! Beauty. We continued to the more distant hills, it is the second area with the possibility of rhinos. We went to the highest hill high above the surrounding terrain. Guides got out of the jeep and scanned every slope through binoculars. Suddenly a flight to the car followed by a safari rally. They overcame muddy terrain by skidding, unevenness by jumping, rally like on Dakar. After about 15-20 minutes, maybe 4 km we saw a rhino mother and a cub. We were lucky enough to watch this family walk around a few buffaloes, herds of gazelles, families of warthogs towards the thicket around a small river. The pair were watched by a lone hyena. After about 20 minutes of watching, the couple got lost in the bush. It was an incredible experience. Huge happiness. It wasn't until an hour later that we met another jeep, which the rhinoceros didn't find. The guides were incredibly handy and helpful. Thank you very much for that. Their names were Masai Carl and driver John. Many thanks to the travel agency Marco Polo from Diani Beach, who took perfect care of us. I don't speak English, but we still agreed at home using a translator. The day before the safari they picked us up at the gate of our resort, took us to their offices, which is located on the main road directly opposite the resort of Neptune. There we paid the required price. The price was very nice, tens of percent cheaper than at our home travel agency. Then they took us back to our resort. Early the next morning we were picked up at the resort reception and taken to the local airport. Three days after arrival, they were waiting for us at the airport (although we were 3 hours late) and took us back to our resort. Everything went well, it worked perfectly. I highly recommend Marco Polo to everyone.
