Best Safari Our hotel recommended Marco Polo his driver came to pick us from our hotel.
Marco Polo was friendly showed us pictures and offered really good price!
Our Safari driver was really friendly as well!
After booking a trip to Kenya, the next thing on everyone's list is probably a safari. We wanted to book with a local company to support local businesses and not let the European agencies get a big cut, and because we don't like having to vacate the hotel room for the days we're on safari, had we booked with the agency.
So we had to find a trustworthy company, offering good, not too expensive safaris. We wrote several e-mails and got several offers, but none seemed quite right. Marco almost instantly replied with a 2 very detailed options, tailored to what we had asked for. We definitely wanted to book with him! Just a matter of choosing which lodges to book, because they were all very good.
When we had chosen our option and informed Marco, he asked us to send an advance of 20%. All went well. Marco confirmed as soon as the money was received. The balance we paid one week before the start of the safari and it all was well worth it!
On the first day of the safari we were picked up from our hotel with a mini van (a 4x4 is probably a bit more comfortable, but a van will do just fine in Tsavo and it's cheaper) by our driver Boni. He explained the program for the next days and then we were on our way to the park, doing a 2,5-hour drive. We made a little stop to fill up on water and for our driver to have breakfast. Most safari companies give you 1 bottle of water per person per day, which is no good. Thankfully, Marco Polo takes better care of its clients and provides well enough!
As soon as we entered the park (don't let the gate attendants rip you off with hat sales btw!!) Boni provided us with all the information we wanted and more. We've learned a great deal about animals from him, as well as the history of Tsavo and other interesting facts about the park.
Throughout the whole safari he kept pointing us to things we would have undoubtedly missed without his keen eyes. A lion under a bush, warthog hidden amidst some zebras, white hyena poo (I thought they were eggs) etc. He also kept in constant contact with other drives and the park rangers, discussing animal sightings. This is exactly what you want in a great safari guide/driver!
Next time, we’ll probably just go for a long safari, as it was an amazing experience and Marco Polo Safaris helped make ours just perfect!
So if you’re looking for a safari, book with Marco! And ask for Boni to be your driver.
PS: if you are going to Tsavo, stay in Sentrim and Kilaguni. Amazing!
4 days Safari Our trip start in Tsavo East Nati park, next day Amboseli and the last one was Taita Hills.
It was amazing experience. Our guide / driver names Bonnie was very polite, communicative and friendly person. If you would like to see a lot of animals and have the best time ask for him! We learned a lot and also we saw every kind of animals living in those parks. Bonnie knew exactly what he is doing and he took us on the place where the animals were at the moment.
Accomodation was nice, with great food and amazing views.
So if you decided to spend some time in Safari, visit Marco Polo, ask for Bonnie and after that just enjoy it! 🙂
Unbelievable service and incredible trip Marco Polo picked us up from our hotel and took us to his shop. He gave us lots of different options and was so patient, and not pushy at all. We booked a 3 day safari at the Masai Mara and a one day trip to the shimba hills for 6 people.
Literally the best planning ever - everything was on time and superb,Marco always made sure we were happy with everything, the driver Richard and safari guide for Shimba (Sammy) were all so friendly and helpful.
Masai Mara was just amazing, and the package that was put together for us there included a safari plane and the most incredible accomodation and food. Absolute bucket list stuff at a great price. Dont look any further! Thank you again Marco!
Diani Beach to the Masai Mara and Back Again: The Lynch Mob Story! I began this journey by reviewing multiple safari providers, narrowing the field down to 5 and contacting them all for quotes and information.
Some were helpful and informative but by far the most helpful, informative and accommodating was Marco not to mention he is by a considerable margin the least expensive (i will get to that later).
Marco is an extremely experienced operator who can advise you according to your specific needs, is a local (to Diani) man and knows everyone in the safari business.
We discussed (via email) options, dates, duration etc and eventually (due to me not him) arrived at a plan. I had to accommodate my 70 year old mother, my three children of 7, 13 & 21 (plus her 22 year old partner), my 20 month old Grand Daughter and my 40 year old wife!
Of particular concern to me was the health and safety of the children; this is mainly why we decided to visit Governors Camp for the quality of experience and the medical capability they have should it be required.
The crux to this plan was waiting for a last minute deal for Governors camp. We were due to fly from Ukunda airstrip on the 28th Oct 2019 for a 2 night 3 day safari; Marco booked the flights in May but advised me to wait for a last minute deal on the camp. I was conscious this was a gamble but we had a solid back up plan and i had faith in Marco by this point.
I contacted Marco throughput the preceding months with various questions which he always answered promptly and thoroughly. With one week to go Marco still advised to hold out a few more days to go firm on the booking of Governors Camp. He confirmed the booking at the agreed price 5 days before and i asked him to send a car to my villa at Diani to pick me up so we could meet each other finalise the specifics of the safari and pay by Visa at his office. Although a gamble the overall cost saving was significant.
Marco gave me an invoice and final itinerary and said 2 cars would be at my villa 0700hrs prompt for collection of my family and i to transfer to Ukunda on the 28th Oct. Fast forward a few days and at exactly the designated time 2 pristine cars with two lovely drivers (& Marco!) came to collect us. They took us to the air strip, Marco gave me the paperwork and park fees and wished me a fantastic time saying he would call me when i got back. What was particularly striking was how well he knew everyone.
Needless to say we had and absolutely tremendous time thanks entirely to Marco. The safari itself? Wow!!!
